"Banquet" is a song from British band Bloc Party's debut album Silent Alarm. Originally released on a double A-side single along with " Staying Fat " in May 2004 by Moshi Moshi Records , it was re-released as a regular single in the United Kingdom by Wichita Recordings on 25 April 2005.
Bloc Party is an EP compilation of Bloc Party's first two UK-only singles: "She's Hearing Voices" and "Banquet/Staying Fat". Released on 24 May 2004, it was Bloc Party's first V2 Records EP. It was released later in Japan in August 2004, and then in the United States by Dim Mak Records in September of the same year.
In June 2004, Bloc Party convened at Deltalab Studios in Copenhagen to make Silent Alarm with Paul Epworth. [10] The band had already written demo songs to record, but Okereke has noted that "it is a creative process and you have to let yourself be inspired while you're in the studio as well". [4]
Bloc Party spent the whole of August 2005 promoting Silent Alarm Remixed at several European festivals. The record was released on 29 August following the band's headlining slots at the Reading and Leeds Festivals on 26–28 August. [8] The final track list included the Bloc Party EP edit of "Banquet" by Silent Alarm producer Paul Epworth. [9]

Moakes shared co-writing credits with Okereke on some of the band's earlier lyrics. In the early days of the band, he contributed lyrics mostly to the band's more political songs, and he composed the song "Diet". Moakes added new instruments to his repertoire on Bloc Party's second and third albums, A Weekend in the City and Intimacy respectively.
