Moniaive is the last community on the A702 before a 12 miles (19 km) drive over moorland to St John's Town Dalry in the Glenkens or a 15 miles (24 km) one over mostly single track road to Carsphairn on the B729. So in many ways it feels like the terminus of the lively Nithsdale communities. Yet it is far from being an end of the road village.
