In a comic book-style setting, the Equestria Girls discuss their big-city plans for the day when they witness a jewelry store being robbed. Using their magical geodes, the girls transform into their Crystal Guardian outfits and chase after the thief, superhero style. After a while of chasing, the girls catch the thief and send him to prison.
Beginning in 2017, Hasbro released Equestria Girls animated specials in place of feature films. As with the four previous films, the specials promote the year's particular line-up of Equestria Girls dolls. The three 22-minute specials were released in 2017. The following year, 2018, Hasbro began releasing extended specials.
An additional minigame centered around My Little Pony: Equestria Girls based on Konami's Dance Dance Revolution and Just Dance series gameplay is also available. Players can use their fingers to tap on the screen to the beat of the music. The songs featured in the game are taken from the Equestria Girls movie, and award the player based on scoring.
