Mission Hockey is an American brand of inline skates currently owned by Bauer Hockey. In December 1994, three former Bauer employees founded the Dare Development Group and began producing roller hockey equipment under the Mission brand name. In December 1997, Dare changed its name to the Mission Hockey Company after it expanded to ice hockey.
Like ice hockey, inline skater hockey is a contact sport and has a similar set of rules of the game with few noticeable variations. These mainly derive from the much smaller standard rink size (800 m 2 compared to 1,800 m 2 in ice hockey). In skater hockey the game is played with no "offside" and no "icing", a "free hit" instead of a bully.
Since the sport transitioned to the United States in the 1960s, teams and players competing in the United States have waned as roller rinks continue to close nationwide. Teams are often completed by tapping skaters from ice or inline hockey who are willing to give it a go and round out teams at U.S. nationals; many playing on inline skates.
