St. Mary Church is a Roman Catholic church in New Haven, Connecticut, part of the Archdiocese of Hartford. It is the seat of the city-wide Blessed Michael McGivney Parish . As of July 1, 2023, the consolidated city-wide parish operates eight churches for regularly scheduled worship.

On October 26, 1919, St. Mary Parish was created when Fr. John Kowalski was named first pastor. He celebrated the first Masses for St. Mary in St. Francis chapel. A basement church was completed in 1921 and dedicated on October 5, 1921, by Bishop John Joseph Nilan. The completed church was dedicated on May 30, 1927.
On October 31, 2020, the cathedral hosted the beatification mass for the Rev. Michael J. McGivney, who founded the Knights of Columbus within the then Diocese of Hartford in 1882. A concurrent ceremony was held at St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut, where McGivney was assigned as an associate pastor. [6]
Bishop Benedict Fenwick of Boston in 1829 purchased an existing Episcopalian church in Hartford to create Holy Trinity, the first Catholic church in the state. By the 1840's, the population in the region had grown sufficiently to move Fenwick to petition the Vatican for a diocese for Connecticut and Rhode Island .
By 1928, a school had been constructed and was run by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery. On July 23, 1934, the Hartford City Council named the surrounding area of the church "Barry Square" in honor of the parish's first pastor.
