Wasco County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon.As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,213. [1] Its county seat is The Dalles. [2] The county is named for a local tribe of Native Americans, the Wasco, a Chinook tribe who live on the south side of the Columbia River.
The Dalles (/ ˈ d æ l z /) DALZ; formally the City of The Dalles and also called Dalles City, is an inland port and the largest city in Wasco County, Oregon, United States.The population was 16,010 at the 2020 census, and it is the largest city in Oregon along the Columbia River outside the Portland Metropolitan Area.

Edward Sharp (1865–1954) was the county surveyor and roadmaster whose work underlies much of the development in Wasco County. He built this trio of houses (1895–1905) for himself, his family, and their employees in the Queen Anne and Craftsman styles.
It joins Wasco County, Oregon, with Klickitat County, Washington, 192 miles (309 km) upriver from the mouth of the Columbia near Astoria, Oregon. The closest towns on the Washington side are Dallesport and Wishram. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) began work on the dam in 1952 and completed it five years later.
