The Bangladeshi taka (Bengali: টাকা, sign: ৳, code: BDT, short form: Tk) is the currency of Bangladesh. In Unicode, it is encoded at U+09F3 ৳ BENGALI RUPEE SIGN. Issuance of banknotes ৳ 10 and larger is controlled by Bangladesh Bank, while the ৳ 2 and ৳ 5 banknotes are the responsibility of the ministry of finance.
From 1890 to 1941, Bengal, under the British Raj adhered to Calcutta time (UTC+5:53:20). [1] During the 1940s, in the midst of World War II, British India underwent a series of time zone changes. [1] [2] On 1 October 1941, the region transitioned to UTC+06:30. On 15 May 1942, the following year, the region shifted to UTC+05:30.
Hence, to avoid confusion while refering to the time zone Bangladesh Standard Time (BST) is the more appropriate use.
