Kenai is a male bear. He is the younger brother of Sitka and Denahi, the adoptive elder brother of Koda, and the husband of Nita. Kenai was born an Inuk human. He grew up in his tribe under the watchful eye of his elder brothers, learning to hunt, fish, and honor the Great Spirits of the deceased.
On the mountain, Kenai is cornered by Denahi, but their battle is interrupted by Koda, who steals Denahi's spear. Kenai comes to Koda's aid, out of love, prompting Sitka to appear and turn him back into a human, much to Denahi and Koda's surprise.
After being transformed into a bear and being forced to travel with Koda, Kenai showed the capacity to learn from his mistakes. His bond with Koda helped him learn that bears are not killers, and he even came to see the young cub as a little brother.
