Denton Independent School District, sometimes shortened to Denton ISD, is a school district based in Denton, Texas. DISD's superintendent is Jamie Wilson. During the 2021-2022 school year, the District served 31,951 students. [3] In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. [4]

The school was previously located in Armstrong Hall, adjacent to the Ross-Blakley Law Library on ASU's Tempe campus. In 2012, the school announced plans to relocate to Arizona State University Downtown Phoenix campus. [4] The first classes held in the new building, the Beus Center for Law and Society, were in the fall semester of 2016. [5]

The district also includes the University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, and the Denton County campus of North Central Texas College. [2] Lake Bridgeport is in the far west portion of the district. US 380 runs horizontally through the entirety of the district. In the eastern portion, I-35 runs vertically through the city of Denton.
The district has been represented by Republican Ben Bumgarner since January 10, 2023, upon his initial election to the Texas House. [ 1 ] As a result of redistricting after the 2020 Federal census, from the 2022 elections the district encompasses southwestern, and portions of southeastern and south central, Denton County .
