The new Perth Amboy Magnet School, on High Street, Perth Amboy, is a 124,000-square-foot (11,500 m 2) building. Its cost was about $28 million and replaced the 76-year-old building on New Brunswick Avenue. It was decided that the school should stay located there. As projected, the school houses up to 250 high school students.
Perth Amboy Public Schools is a community public school district serving students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, located in the city of Perth Amboy, in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. [3]
Jacob Carvell Gough (May 9, 1840 – ?) was a merchant, ship builder and political figure in New Brunswick. He represented Northumberland County in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1868 to 1874. He was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, the son of James Gough and Isabella Carvell, and educated in Sackville.
Perth Amboy High School opened a new 590,000 square feet (55,000 m 2) facility in September 2024 that was designed to handle 3,300 students and was constructed at a cost of $283 million by the New Jersey Schools Development Authority, which paid for all but the $3.3 million covered by the school district.
The hospital was dedicated on Memorial Day, 1901. The $15,000 Perth Amboy City Hospital was opened in 1902 with 12 beds and six doctors. [5] In 1903, the School of Nursing opened. The name was changed to Perth Amboy General Hospital in 1929, and more recently to Raritan Bay Medical Center. [6]
St. Mary's Church was established in 1844 to serve the Irish Catholics who had settled in Perth Amboy. A grammar school was established in 1852, followed by St. Mary High School in 1923, both staffed by the Sisters of Mercy.
The two municipalities are the City of Perth Amboy and the City of South Amboy, located across from each other on the Raritan Bay. While each community has its own independent government, and the two municipalities have no shared governance (other than Middlesex County), the term is often used to refer to the area, including on highway exit signs.
The Central New Jersey Home News Tribune is a daily newspaper serving Middlesex County, New Jersey.The paper has an average daily weekday circulation of about 49,000. [2] The newspaper is the result of the 1995 merger of The Home News of East Brunswick (founded 1879) and The News Tribune of Woodbridge Township.
