Blue Knob State Park is a 6,128-acre (2,480 ha) Pennsylvania state park in Kimmel, Lincoln, and Pavia townships in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. [2] The average annual snowfall at the park is about 12 feet (370 cm). The park is named for Blue Knob, the second highest mountain in Pennsylvania at 3,146 feet (959 m). [2]
Blue Knob was thought to be the highest mountain in Pennsylvania until 1921, when the U.S. Geological Survey determined a summit of 3,213 feet (979 m) was higher (later named Mount Davis). In the 1950s the summit was cleared of vegetation and was the location of Claysburg Air Force Station until it was deactivated in 1961.
Blue Knob is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Blair County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. [2] The CDP is in southwestern Blair County, at the southern end of Juniata Township.
In 2002 and 2003, Blue Mountain added two advanced runs and a teaching hill with two beginner slopes, fed by a triple chairlift and a conveyor lift. In 2006, the resort added eastern Pennsylvania's first high-speed six-pack chairlift. [6] In summer 2008, the resort implemented a $3.1 million upgrade for the 2008-2009 ski season.

Ritchey Knob is a summit located on the Blue Knob massif.This mountain is connected to Pine Knob and forms the northernmost summits of the massif.. Ritchey Knob is the fourth highest of this grouping behind Blue Knob 3,136 feet (956 m), Herman Point 3,034 feet (925 m) and Schaefer Head 2,950 feet (899 m).
It was renamed again in the late 1990s to Liberty Mountain Resort. In 2003, Snow Time, Inc added the Boulder Ridge Snow Tubing area. [4] In May 2010 Liberty Mountain purchased The Carroll Valley Resort giving Liberty a total of 99 rooms as well as adding two more restaurants (The Tavern on the Green and The Inn) and an 18-hole golf course.
From a small parking lot at Herman Point, near the top of Blue Knob, the trail immediately begins a lengthy and steep descent off the mountain and toward the valley of Bobs Creek. At about six-tenths of a mile, the trail passes the Lost Cox Children Monument, where the bodies of two young children were found in 1856. [ 4 ]
