The Festival Internacional Cervantino (FIC), popularly known as El Cervantino, is a festival which takes place each fall in the city of Guanajuato, located in central Mexico. The festival originates from the mid 20th century, when short plays by Miguel de Cervantes called entremeses (singular entremés) were performed in the city's plazas.
The Cervantes Theater (Spanish: Teatro Cervantes) is located in the Mexican city of Guanajuato. The building is of stone in the colonial style, designed by José Martínez Cossio and inaugurated in 1979. It is a venue of the Festival Internacional Cervantino, but also holds other events during the rest of the year.

In October 1999 the world premiere of the final version of the opera The Visitors by Carlos Chávez took place in the Teatro Juárez during the Festival Cervantino. Conducted by José Areán with stage direction by Sergio Vela , the opera was performed with its original English libretto and its final title.
The juries for the Ollin Yoliztli Prize were formed under the auspices of the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Guanajuato, Mexico. When establishment of the prize was announced on November 10, 1979, by Hector Vasconcelos, Director of the Cervantes Festival, the jury had been selected. Their appointments were for life.
