Miller Township was named for James Miller, a pioneer settler who gave elections officials five and one half gallons of whiskey to secure the honor. [4] It is the only Miller Township statewide. [5] Miller Township was originally built up chiefly by settlers from Vermont and Rhode Island. [6]
Brandon was originally called Four Corners, then Hildreth, but the site was never legally platted on account of a land dispute in the 1840s.
