The Indiana Code in book form. The Indiana Code is the code of laws for the U.S. state of Indiana. The contents are the codification of all the laws currently in effect within Indiana. With roots going back to the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, the laws of Indiana have been revised many times.
Originally published in 1857 by A. O. P. Nicholson, Public Printer, as The Revised Code of the District of Columbia, prepared under the Authority of the Act of Congress, entitled "An act to improve the laws of the District of Columbia, and to codify the same," approved March 3, 1855.

The ICS uses an hierarchical classification, which consists of three nested levels called fields (Level 1), groups (Level 2) and sub-groups (Level 3). Each field is subdivided into groups, which are further divided into sub-groups. All classification levels are designated by a classification code (called notation) and a title.
The NESC contains the procedure and time schedule for revising the NESC, which are described in the back of the code book. The NESC has an interpretation committee that issues formal interpretations. The process for obtaining a formal interpretation is outlined in the front of the code book. The NESC is currently published on a 5-year cycle.
