Dream Evil is the fourth studio album by American heavy metal band Dio, released on July 21, 1987.It is the first album without Vivian Campbell who left the band in 1986, and features former Rough Cutt members Craig Goldy on guitar and Claude Schnell on keyboards.
The label did not find the name original enough, and thus the band settled for the name Dream Evil, inspired by the Dio album of the same name. Dream Evil's debut album was released in April 2002, and received positive feedback from the metal press. At one point the album, titled Dragonslayer, reached number one on the Japanese import

Goldy performed on the Dio album Dream Evil, but this first stint with the band was short lived and he left due to unknown reasons. In 2000, Goldy returned to Dio and helped record Magica, but shortly thereafter left again due to family commitments. Doug Aldrich replaced him for the album, Killing the Dragon.

Goldy remained for just one new album, Dream Evil, before leaving Dio due to "musical differences" in August 1988. [7] After "hundreds" of submissions from guitarists worldwide, Rowan Robertson was chosen as Goldy's replacement in May 1989.
