Zhezkazgan, or Jezkazgan (Kazakh: Жезқазған, romanized: Jezqazğan (listen ⓘ)) is a city and the administrative centre of Ulytau Region, Kazakhstan. Population: 86,227 (2009 Census results); [2] 90,001 (1999 Census results). [2] Its urban area includes the neighbouring mining town of Satpayev, for a total city population of 148,700.
Ulytau Region (Kazakh: Ұлытау облысы, romanized: Ūlytau oblysy; Russian: Улытауская область) is a region of Kazakhstan. The administrative center of the region is the city of Jezkazgan. The area split off from Karaganda Region in 2022.
After the administrative reform in 1997, the last change happened since then took place in 1999, when parts of North Kazakhstan that originally belonged to Kokshetau region became part of Akmola. The 1990s merges were in order to dilute the Russian population in the resulting region and to avoid having regions where Russians form a majority.

Zhezkazgan Airport (Kazakh: Жезқазған Әуежайы / Jezqazğan Äuejaiy; IATA: DZN, ICAO: UAKD) is an international airport, serving the city of Zhezkazgan in Ulytau Region of Kazakhstan. At the moment, it has one asphalt and concrete runway, and other four unpaved runways. The pavement classification number is 37/R/B/X/T.
Baikonur is a small mining town in central Kazakhstan near Jezkazgan.Coal mining began in 1914. In 1961, the name was appropriated for the Baikonur Cosmodrome about 320 kilometres southwest of the older mining town; some sources state this was done in order to keep the actual location of the cosmodrome secret.
