Mohenjo-daro (/ m oʊ ˌ h ɛ n dʒ oʊ ˈ d ɑː r oʊ /; Sindhi: موهن جو دڙو , lit. ' Mound of the Dead Men ' ; Urdu : موئن جو دڑو [muˑənⁱ dʑoˑ d̪əɽoˑ] ) is an archaeological site in Larkana District , Sindh , Pakistan .

Rakhal Das Banerji, also Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay (12 April 1885 – 23 May 1930), was an Indian archaeologist and an officer of the Archeological Survey of India (ASI). In 1919, he became the second ASI officer deputed to survey the site of Mohenjo-daro and returned there in the 1922-23 season.
After excavation at Mohenjo-daro in 1926, this and the other finds were initially deposited in the Lahore Museum, but later moved to the Archaeological Survey of India headquarters at New Delhi, where a new "Central Imperial Museum" was being planned for the new capital of the British Raj, in which at least a selection would be displayed.
By using the big finds in 1923 to gain more funding, he avoided a large budget decrease in 1922–1923 that would have endangered excavations at Harappa and Mohenjo-daro. The results of these efforts, which revealed an ancient culture with its own writing system, were published in the Illustrated London News on 20 September 1924. [ 10 ]
