In 1989 the Guild’s horizons expanded with incorporation as a nonprofit organization. During the 1998-1999 school year, the Massachusetts Middle School Drama Festival, Inc. and the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild, Inc. merged. Since then the Guild has increased its membership to over 160 schools across the Commonwealth.

In 2006, the academy was absorbed into the Central School of Speech and Drama. [1] Many of the academy's past alumni have formed a theatre company dedicated to keeping the original spirit of the school alive.
