The Daniel Boone Home is a historic site in Defiance, Missouri, United States. [2] The house was built by Daniel Boone's youngest son Nathan Boone, who lived there with his family until they moved further south in 1837. The Boones had moved there from Kentucky in late 1799.
The 15-room Hunter-Dawson House was constructed between 1859 and 1860 for the wealthy and influential family of William Washington Hunter and his wife Amanda. William Hunter was a Virginian by way of Potosi, Missouri. Mr. Hunter was a merchant, farmer, and real estate investor.
It was called The Pythian Home of Missouri. Springfield was one of seven cities competing for the construction of the Pythian home and sold 53 acres (21 ha) of land to the knights for $1 in 1909. [1] It served as a meeting hall for the order until 1942.
