The SEARCH model - For A Houston Without Homelessness. Watch on. Each year, SEARCH Homeless Services helps thousands of individuals and families move from the streets into safe homes and stable lives through services that Engage & Stabilize, House, and Educate.
While the only way to cure homelessness is through housing, providing a home is just the first step on the path toward stability and self-sufficiency. Even after receiving a roof over their heads, many of our clients need ongoing help in order to stabilize their lives and maintain their housing.
Today, through the efforts of SEARCH and our partners in The Way Home, Houston has reduced homelessness by 64%, housed more than 25,000 individuals and families, and become a model for the rest of the nation in how to address this challenging humanitarian issue.
Once connected with SEARCH, we help our clients obtain permanent housing, move into their new home, and qualify for benefits and other supportive resources that they need to stabilize their lives and successfully exit homelessness.
SEARCH was founded in 1989 by a group of concerned citizens and volunteers in response to the growing number of men, women, and children living on the streets of Houston. Initially, the organization served as a day shelter offering meals, showers, and laundry service.
SEARCH Homeless Services complements and partners with shelters and other agencies to fill the gaps for individuals struggling to change their lives. Going beyond services that address basic needs, SEARCH works to end the homeless experience.
