Poldark is a British historical drama television series created and written by Debbie Horsfield [1] [2] and based on the novel series of the same name by Winston Graham.It aired on BBC One for five series from 8 March 2015 – 26 August 2019, adapting the first seven of the twelve novels in the series, [3] which were previously adapted by the 1975–1977 BBC television series. [4]
The series was referenced by Reeves and Mortimer, presenting Poldark on Mopeds as a rejected comedy programme in an advert for TV Licensing. [ 6 ] In February 2014, the BBC announced a new adaptation of the series, also called Poldark , to be broadcast in 2015.
Poldark is a series of historical novels by Winston Graham, initially published from 1945 to 1953 and continuing from 1973 to 2002. [1] The first novel, Ross Poldark, was named for the protagonist of the series. The novel series was adapted for television by the BBC in 1975 and again in 2015.
The first series was based on the first two Poldark novels by Graham. [1] It is the second screen adaptation of Graham's novels, following a television series broadcast by BBC One between 1975 and 1977. He then starred in Poldark, from the third season onward, as Drake Carne. [3] Richardson dated fellow Poldark actor Eleanor Tomlinson for around one year, until they broke up in June 2018. [4] He appeared in the 2017 film Dunkirk "for a second", but described the experience as a "teaser to a dream that I want to actualize". [5]
