Rutin (rutoside, quercetin-3-O-rutinoside or sophorin) is the glycoside combining the flavonol quercetin and the disaccharide rutinose (α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranose). It is a flavonoid glycoside found in a wide variety of plants, including citrus .
Rutten was born in Tilburg, Netherlands. At the age of six, he developed eczema and severe asthma. His eczema meant he always wore long sleeves, turtle necks and gloves, as well as bandages every night, and his asthma meant he was unable to partake in exercise, and was consequently relatively skinny.
Quercetin is the aglycone form of a number of other flavonoid glycosides, such as rutin (also known as quercetin-3-O-rutinoside) and quercitrin, found in citrus fruit, buckwheat, and onions. [2] Quercetin forms the glycosides quercitrin and rutin together with rhamnose and rutinose, respectively.
Oxerutins are semisynthetic derivatives of plant constituents. Although they are closely related to the natural flavonoid rutin, hydroxyethylrutosides are not found in food. The only way to take them is in a supplement. [1]
Troxerutin is a flavonol, a type of flavonoid, derived from rutin. [1] It is more accurately a hydroxyethylrutoside. It can be isolated from Sophora japonica, the Japanese pagoda tree. It is used as a vasoprotective. [2]
