shaney777 Active Member. Are the official years of Kennedy half NIFCs actually known? Red Book has a range listed, but according to Coin World, these years are not unquestionably correct. Reportedly for several of the years that Red Book calls NIFC, collectors have found UNC rolls at banks, suggesting they're not indeed NIFC.
All proofs are NIFC. Mint set only coins such as the 1970 D half, the 1973 Ike dollars, the 1987 halves, the 1996 W dime. Coins that were only available if roll or bag sets such as the business strike quality S mint ATB quarters, half dollars after 2001, dollar coins after 2011 (maybe 2012 not sure when they went to NIFC for those.
What's an NIFC? Not Issued For Circulation. Usually used in terms of half dollars after 2002, or pretty much most of the new $1 coins. But no, there is no premium. They make millions of them due to congressional decree. You can buy them from the mint, or just get lucky with rolls. Back in 2020 or so, there were a lot of 2020 Kennedy halves that ...
To answer Tyler's question, there is no way to tell apart NIFC from business strike by appearance - because NIFC ARE business strikes. Ya' gotz ta know your Mint history. Hey, knowing this stuff is pretty much all us old guys have left, so have a little respect. V. Kurt Bellman, May 11, 2017.
Lon Chaney Well-Known Member. I didn't think so, but I don't know. I assumed those mintage figures I posted for 2012 are estimates for year to date mintages. But again, I don't know. Is a 2009-D Sacagawea dollar an NIFC (not intended for circulation) coin? I have one that I got in change. I know 2002-date Kennedys are NIFC, but I am...
petro89 said: ↑. Any modern coin with mintage that low is probably a keeper. Of course, that's sort of relative. Any circulation modern coin with mintage that low is a keeper in higher grade. But these are all (well, mostly) BU coins. Very few get thrown into circulation. With that said, I keep them. Once I get 30 or 40 bucks worth, I start ...
2005 and 2013 were also NIFC years, but there was a high enough mintage that they are common in circulation and not worth more than 50c. depending on condition and date, NIFC halves are usually worth 75c-$2. 1987 is worth around $5, 1970-D is worth $10-$30. also keep an eye out for any proofs with an 'S' mintmark. jlogan, Feb 15, 2014.
EagleEyez Hoarding coinage since 1974. NIFC halves are fun for a date collector, as they are much less common to find. They may also be considered to have slightly more value, due to their lower mintages. EagleEyez, Feb 23, 2015. #10 + Quote Reply.
What are your most interesting NIFC finds insofar? Please feel free to share here, or if you have specifically found any impaired proofs from San Francisco, you can post to a specific thread instead. My best find happens to be a 2012-D Benjamin Harrison presidential dollar coin from a vending machine.
Congrats on the finds but I've come to the conclusion that halves dated 2018 aren't NIFC. Solid boxes of halves dated 2018 are turning up in circulation. I've found quite a few 2018 halves this year myself. It seems the government saw fit to replenish its supply of circulation-bound halves. This is not entirely surprising considering 2001 was ...
