The building was Washington's General Post Office until 1914, at which time it became primarily a federal office building. Nearly demolished several times in its history, it was renovated in 1976 and 1983. In 2013 it was leased for 60 years, becoming the Trump International Hotel Washington, D.C., which opened in September 2016.
