Hypovitaminosis D has been associated with many neurological conditions. However, an actual mechanism of action for each of the conditions has yet to be solidified. Many researchers have questioned whether the depletion of vitamin D actually causes these disorders or if vitamin D deficiency is a symptom of these disorders. [medical citation needed]
Vitamin D compounds, specifically cholecalciferol (D3) and ergocalciferol (D2), are used in rodenticides due to their ability to induce hypercalcemia, a condition characterized by elevated calcium levels in the blood. This overdose leads to organ failure and is pharmacologically similar to vitamin D's toxic effects in humans.
Maternal vitamin D deficiency can cause fetal bone defects from before birth and impairment of bone quality after birth. [ 83 ] [ 84 ] Rickets typically appear between 3 and 18 months of age. [ 85 ] This condition can be caused by vitamin D, calcium or phosphorus deficiency. [ 86 ]
Vitamin D3, aka cholecalciferol, is important for bone health and immune function. Experts discuss benefits, sources, risks and who needs a supplement.
Bleeding can occur internally, or externally either through a natural opening such as the mouth, nose, ear, urethra, vagina or anus, or through a puncture in the skin. Hypovolemia is a massive decrease in blood volume, and death by excessive loss of blood is referred to as exsanguination . [ 2 ]
Endolymphatic hydrops is a disorder of the inner ear. It consists of an excessive build-up of the endolymph fluid, which fills the hearing and balance structures of the inner ear. Endolymph fluid, which is partly regulated by the endolymph sac, flows through the inner ear and is critical to the function of all sensory cells in the inner ear.
Both vitamin D2 and vitamin D3 will help to increase vitamin D levels in the blood, says Pelitera. However, some studies have shown that supplementing vitamin D3 does a little bit better of a job ...
Skull fractures usually heal on their own [citation needed], but they can also cause several complications. Cerebrospinal fluid leaking out of the ear involves a higher risk of developing meningitis. Treatment may include corticosteroids, antibiotics, or surgery. [citation needed]
