Shawnee Mountain has nine lifts. Its main lift is a high speed-Detachable chairlift from Doppelmayr CTEC that was bought in 2010.This quad lift reaches the top in only three minutes and is called Tomahawk Express, operating at over 1,000 feet per minute (300 m/min).
During the 2020-21 ski season, Vail made the decision to considerably reduce the number of terrain parks at Big Boulder and market the mountain as a learning hill. It remains to be seen if this is a temporary COVID-19 pandemic-related change, or if Vail has decided to take away what made Boulder special when compared to today’s mega resorts.
The resort opened in 1967 and was known as the Doe Mountain until 1999. It is a year-round resort on more than 330 acres (1.3 km 2 ) that features a variety of activities and amenities. Bear Creek Mountain has a summit elevation of 1,100 feet (340 m) and vertical elevation change of 510 ft (160 m).
