Any particular instance of poetry is called a poem and is written by a poet.
In Flanders Fields. " In Flanders Fields " is a war poem in the form of a rondeau, written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. He was inspired to write it on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of friend and fellow soldier Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, who died in the Second Battle of Ypres.
The poem received mixed reviews from critics, and Coleridge was once told by the publisher that most of the book's sales were to sailors who thought it was a naval songbook. Coleridge made several modifications to the poem over the years. In the second edition of Lyrical Ballads, published in 1800, he replaced many of the archaic words.
The poem is recited in spoken-word form by vocalist Susanne Freytag. Biological Radio , the 1997 Dreadzone album, features the track "Dream Within A Dream" which quotes lines from the poem. The Yardbirds ' recorded a musical adaptation for their 2003 album Birdland , adding a new verse of their own.
The poem was not included in Poe's second poetry collection, Al Aaraaf, Tamerlane, and Minor Poems, and was never re-printed during his lifetime. "Evening Star" was adapted by choral composer Jonathan Adams into his Three Songs from Edgar Allan Poe in 1993.
