post #9 of 11. I made red velvet (duncan hines brand) w/ chocolate pudding added and the cake came out a dark maroon instead of the bright, vibrant red. I have used vanilla pudding and cheesecake pudding and white chocolate pudding as well, with no affect (that I could see) to the color/flavor of the red velvet. HTH.
IMBC tastes really good on Red Velvet cake. You can get it fairly smooth with a bench scraper, but probably not "fondant" smooth. Vanilla bean smbc, raspberry smbc, chocolate smbc, chocolate ganche, and believe it or not peanut butter goes really nice with red velvet is you use cocoa powder in your red velvet recipe.
Directions. 1. Cook the milk and cornstarch over a low heat stirring constantly with a whisk until it forms a paste. Let cool for at least 15 minutes. 2. In another bowl, mix together with an electric mixer the cream cheese, icing sugar and vanilla. 3. Add the flour and milk mixture to the butter and icing sugar mixture.
Instructions. Hand mix all ingredients until incorporated and then mix on medium with a hand mixer for 1:30 to 2:00 minutes. Do not overbeat, as it will make the cake tough. Bake at 325 until a toothpick comes out clean, usually about 34-45 mins . Makes great cupcakes, too. This cake is tasty and sturdy.
Instructions. Combine dry ingredients in one bowl and set aside. Combine liquid ingredients and eggs in a seperate bowl beat until smooth then add to dry ingredients by thirds. Pour into prepared pan and bake until done. I generally bake at 325 but had other things in the oven first and forgot to turn it down from 350.
Instructions. Sift dry ingredients together and set aside. Place butter and sugar in bowl of electric mixer and beat at medium-speed until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Beat in eggs, one at a time. With mixer on low, add red food coloring (be careful not to splash it, as it stains almost everything). Add vanilla.
To prepare cake: Melt Chocolate in a metal bowl set over a saucepan of boiling water or in the top of a double boiler (or melt in microwave for 20 – 25 seconds). Meanwhile. place the sugar, eggs, oil and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment and mix on low speed for two minutes.
post #3 of 6. I think that the classic combo would be cream cheese, there is a good decoraters cream cheese icing in the recipe section. clovely Posted 14 Apr 2009 , 11:55pm. post #4 of 6. Red velvet has to have cream cheese. It's my favorite cake but buttercream ruins it.
I even tried Sarh's scratch which is popular, but to me it does not compare to this. Its a doctored cake mix and I have gotten tons and tons of orders for this cake: 1 box DH Red Velvet Mix. 4 eggs. 1/2 C oil. 3/4 C water. 1 pk. instant choc pudding. 1C sour cream. 1 bottle liquid red food color.
