The Ypsilanti Historic District is a historic district located along several blocks on each side of the Huron River in the center of Ypsilanti, Michigan.The original portion of the district was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1973 [2] and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978; [1] additions to the district were nationally listed in 1989.
The Charles M. Schwab House (also called Riverside) was a 75-room mansion on Riverside Drive, between 73rd and 74th Streets, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. It was constructed for steel magnate Charles M. Schwab .
1980: Ypsilanti contractor, Walter E. Duke, purchases an old building on Water Street south of Michigan Ave for $5,000 as part of the city's anti-blight program. The city and the contractor agree that the site will be renovated to be an "oil recycling facility" and include "riverside recreational areas." [38]
The Ypsilanti Heritage Festival includes and has included a wide variety of activities and events. [7] [8] The Ypsilanti Historic Home Tour, held annually during the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival, began, like the festival proper, in 1979. [9] A beer garden and gambling tent anchored the center of the festival from 1979 through 2010.
The property is now known as "Riverside Manor". St. Anne's Guest Home relocated to North 17th Street in the 1981 because they were unable to comply with fire codes in the old building. [4] The building survived the 1997 Red River flood, but was nearly torn down to make way for new dikes. [5]
Since August 2010, the museum has hosted an annual Firetruck Muster, a fire truck show, at Riverside Park in Ypsilanti. [13] In December 2018, the fire station, which is considered haunted by some paranormal investigators, hosted its inaugural Para-Con paranormal convention, featuring multiple panel discussions and a midnight ghost hunt.
