Here is the latest Chinese 811 with correct markings as a FU-811 and a 1250V rating, what it does in an Ameritron amp is anyones guess. It appears to be from a new source as the Shuguang logo is missing.

High and dry. 3/4 of my equipment is MFJ from Ameritron 811H, Cushcraft 13B2, and A3S, Hygain T3MK3,FM214, MFJ 921,949, and 989 Tuners, MFJ 259 analyzer and much more.
They cited the cause as using a direct connection between radio and amp and mentioned that ALL of their radios should be used with a relay if running an Ameritron (and several other) amp. I now have ARB-704 relays between all my Icoms and my amps.
The Ameritron ARB-704 provides excellent voltage surge protection when keying the L4B from the 7300. The MFJ-212 Matchmaker provides excellent service paired with my Heathkit SA -2060. Finally, the MFJ-939 automatic antenna tuner is a workhorse, and excellent little tuner for barefoot. I also own MFJ's first product, the CWF-2.
Speaking Ameritron, someone should buy that division from MFJ. Due to poor 811A tube supplies and the 572B I would drop the AL-811 and AL-811H amps and sell the Ameritron ALS-500MX with a 100 amp switching power supply for 120 volts to replace the low cost AL-811H at same price.
I had an Ameritron AL-811H, first generation (say mid-1980s) 800 watts. I got it on a trade from a local yahoo swapper scrounger. First thing I did was buy a set of matched 811s for it; I put them in and let them cook for about 10 hours on 110 VAC. Second thing I did was drop a 220 VAC 20A line in the office to feed that amp.
In the old days with traditional ham radio transceivers we adjusted the rigs output using the mic gain and RF power to just under having ALC deflection. No ALC was good. Scott tells me he just got the last of the parasitic boards for the AL-811/H amps. They are all screwed up...with one extra turn added...and some of em are not soldered at all. Parasitic suppressors are a fine art. You want just enough turns to suppress the parasitic on 10m....and no more. Use too many turns, and it burns up on 10m.
