  2. Three way switches are often wired from switch to switch with three wire cables. In that design, if the power comes directly to a switch, then you only need 2 wire cables to the light fixtures. Or if power comes from a fixture, you'd need a 3 wire cable from the fixture to the switch.

On both 3-way switches, the yellow wires go on the brass screws. On the near 3-way, the supply wire (black) goes onto the black common screw. (It's almost like someone color coded it, lol). On the far 3-way, you have no choice: 1 wire 1 screw. Done. All the wires that remain are white and red. Nut them by color: white to white, red to red.

So, in the right hand box, you could replace the 3-way switch with a duplex switch that has a 3-way and a single pole switch. Rewire the 3-way the same. Then use the extra single pole switch for the new light with power and neutral from the other cable. Or, you can run som new cable from the light or the right hand box.

  5. If there is an additional box for the light and the power enters there also, then the power white wire would be hooked up to the light, the power black wire would be hooked up to the black wire of the 14/2 which would be connected to the black wire that goes to the switch on the right of my diagram.

  6. One 3 way switch receives the power for the system of switches. The second 3 way switch is the last switch in the series of switches, this 3 way switch sends the power to the light or lights. If the single pole switch is installed next to the 3 way switch that receives the power from the electrical panel/circuit breaker, then installation of ...

There is always power despite switch position at the red and black wire. The other 3-way switch, we will call it #2, also has a fan switch located with it in that box. Multiple cables coming in and out. The 3-way switch has same configuration with a black wire in the common (darker) screw and white and red in same locations.

  8. Power source through switch box - When power comes through a box containing a light switch and continues on to the light, the switch is attached on one terminal to the black (or sometimes red) line from the power source and on the other terminal to the black (or red) line going on to the light. The white neutral from the source and the white ...

What you need is 12/3 on the last light instead of 12/2. At the switch twist the new black to the black coming into the switch. Then take that red on the new line to the new light and tie both the black that runs with it and the black from the light together then tie the white to the white on the light. Back at the switch.

The First 3 way Switch box has ONE (line/power) 14-2 cable plus ground, and TWO 14-3 cables plus ground wires. The 14-2 (line/power) BLACK wire is pigtailed to BOTH the First and Second 14-3 black wires, then to the bottom black screw on First 3 way switch.
