Delta Burke was forced out, fired, whatever for several reasons but her weight gain was only part of things. Egged on by her husband (who took an increasingly active role in Delta Burke's career), DB began agitating for more money and other perks as the "star" of Designing Women.

Annie Potts teased Delta Burke years later in a group interview that her main memory of the period of in-fighting and troubles on the set was that Delta was so depressed and nearly catatonic that they'd practically have to carry Delta from the dressing room to the stage for the pre-show introduction to the studio audience...

Remember Dixie didnt get along with Delta Burke either so it was just a clash of egos. Having said that- adding Jackee to the show certainly wouldve been interesting and might have given the show a couple more seasons.

Delta Burke and McRaney met, fell in love and had their first kiss on DW. Yes, am sure like every other couple they have had their ups and downs, but McRaney has always stood right beside and up for his wife regardless. DW and DB got it right doing that show addressing head on Suzanne Sugarbaker's weight issues.
