In iChat go to the iChat Menu > Preferences and select the Accounts pane. Select your AIM name if you have more than one Buddy List (It will always list Bonjour even if not active). In the Account Info tab Deselect "Use this Account" to make sure you are logged out. Go to the Server setting tab. The items in here should now be dark text (editable)

Initially it could only connect to the AIM servers ( Apple had an agreement for Apple IDs ending in @mac.com (at the time) were also Valid AIM Screen Names. Later, with MobileMe being released, @me.com names also became valid)

Drag com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist to the Trash if this is an AIM Login (AIM, @mac.com or @me.com) Drag com.apple.ichat.Jabber.plist if Jabber, Facebook or a GoogleTalk Account to the Trash. Restart iChat. If this does not work can you tell me what iChat says in each AIM accounts (Any Login variant) in the server settings tab ?
My Ichat will not sign in. I have an aol screen name which I've used for a long time now. When I went to sign on today, I'm getting a message that the password is incorrect but I can still sign in on the aol website.
You could sign up for an AIM Name if you don't have an older @mac.com name. NOTES. Passwords for @Mac.com and @me.com names need to be kept to 16 characters or less due to an AIM Server limit. @me.com name will not work in iChat 5 or Earlier due to the way Apple have iChat 6 and Messages also login in to Me.com to then allow AIM to "See" the ...
