What I am unsure of is what is actually a safe target for towing without ruining my transmission and what I can tow with the stock setup. What, if any upgrades I should think about. (air bags, etc...) I have a 2020 Ram 1500 Classic with the 3.6L V-6. Axle Ratio is 3.55, Per the attached chart it says my max trailer weight is 7400lbs.
How to find my towing capacity/. In the Fall of 2019 I bought a used 2018 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 5.7L V8 Hemi 4wd truck with the 5'6" bed on it. I did get it from the dealership and it was slightly used, had roughly 3,000 miles on it. It does not have a tow hitch installed nor does it have the electronic trailer brake controller...
You have to know your gear ratio. Using the chart, the example has a 3.73 gear ratio. Mega cab dually, 6.4L Hemi, 3.73 gear ratio, 4x4, has a Gross Combined Weight Rating of 21500 lbs. Subtract the curb/base weight from the Gross Combined Weight Rating to find the tow rating. 21500 - 7708 = 13792.
2,590. Location. AZ - 83 Miles SW of the Geographical Center. Ram Year. 2023. Engine. 6.4 Hemi. I have the Stellantis 2023 Ram 2500 & 3500 Heavy Duty Tow Chart, and the 2023 Ram 1500 Classic (DS) Tow Chart. These took a while to find because there are a whole bunch of websites listing various different numbers, but I figured the Stellantis ones ...
Adding a hitch receiver, the hitch plus WDH setup will subtract about 150 pounds from your PC, or 1400 (rounded) - 150 = 1,250 PC for occupants, gear in truck, any aftermarket accessories that might have been added to truck. When buying trailer, don't rely on dry weight to do math for tongue weight.
So far, the leader is a Grey Wolf 21RR, dry hitch of 693 ( I used 1000 as a guide on the slider tool), 4337 dry weight, plus 2000 for quads, gear, etc, gets me to 6400 roughly. I am hoping the 3.21's have no problem with 6400, which I feel they wont. Jan 30, 2014. #13.
I have had two 2500s after a 1500, so much better for towing in the 2500. And it will let you upgrade to larger if you want. With my 2500 I have 3k payload capacity. With my additions of a bed cover and steps I would still be able to tow your trailer and carry a golf cart in my bed and still have the family in the cab.
Engine. Hemi 5.7 VVT. suicideking said: I'm considering a RAM 1500. It would be a crew cab, short bed, 5.7 V8 engine. The most common gear ratio is the 3.21 which will be 8120lbs. I would need 3.92 gears to get the higher capacity of 11,220. The only model I've found that consistently comes with the 3.92 gears is the Rebel.
Ram Year. 2018. Engine. Hemi 6.4L. TerryW said: I currently drive a 2017 Ram 1500, with the 3.6 and a 3.21 axle ratio. It is a four-wheel drive. My truck has a towing capacity of only 4,210 lbs. According to Ram tow guides, the same truck with a 3.55 and 3.92 axler have a towing capacity of 7, 210 lbs. Has anyone ever upgraded an axle ratio in ...
5.7 Hemi. I am in the process of picking up a 26ft travel trailer, weighing around 5500lbs empty I believe. I am wondering what kind of fuel mileage you guys are getting while towing. I am not expecting great numbers since my truck has poor gas mileage empty. Most of my trips will be short, but I was hoping to do a couple trips out west, but I ...
