For home use, id recommend Gliffy (Chrome Web Store Version) or draw.io (There are free plans) There are also alternatives such as using your own SVG files in Inkscape, or google drawings. Those are a bit more clunky though.
Try our www.UVexplorer.com (below 500 network interfaces is free). It also integrates into LucidChart, Visio, PRTG and others... Sorry to self-post!
Since you're new, use the opportunity to learn the network topology and diagram it as you learn it. Plenty of tools to do this, but my personal favorite is Lucidchart, mostly because it doesn't require Windows.
It may seem strange, but depending on the complexity of the network diagram you need, http://lovelycharts.com/ is a VERY good resource. Stupid simple, all online, lots of options.
So I've just started a new role where we use Apple Macbooks meaning using MS Visio is out of the question for Network diagram creation. Does anyone know of any good alternative tools? We currently use something called Omnigraffle but the diagrams created aren't the best. Thanks in advance

It's kind of a mess, but the concept is cool as hell. Being able to diagram in a 3D would opens up some interesting options. Gliffy is fast, free, and you can view your drawings anywhere. 39 votes, 20 comments. 860K subscribers in the sysadmin community.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a freeware program I could use to make a network diagram? I've never had to do this before, so I'm still rather new to this.
It's an awesome tool, head to netacad.com and sign up, there's a free course on there to get you through the basics of packet tracer, plus if you decide to go for CCNA etc you're already a step ahead.
It obviates the need for a pretty network diagram. I'm on the extreme end of automation; I will not waste energy on tasks that can be automated, which includes visualizing a network. Let the tools handle this for you.
