Post offices are scattered throughout Hong Kong. All of them are managed by Hongkong Post. As of 2020, there are 30 post offices on Hong Kong Island, 35 in Kowloon, 48 in the New Territories and eight on the Outlying Islands. There are also three mobile post offices providing postal services in remote areas in the New Territories.
These includes ZIP Code of United States Postal Service (5 numeral digits) and Postal codes in Japan (3+2 numeral digits). On March 20, 1970 the first table of three (3) numeral digit Taiwanese postal codes are announced by the Directorate General of Posts, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (then Chunghwa Post).
With the exception of mail from Mainland China, postal codes are not used in Hong Kong as the Hongkong Post deems it unnecessary to adopt such a system. Hongkong Post advised to leave the postcode field blank or try to fill in with "000", "0000", "000000" or "HKG" wherever required. [ 1 ]
On 20 April 2012, the former deputy director of the Chief Executive-elect's Competition and Election Office, Mr. Ho Wing-him, stated that Leung Chun-ying planned to transform Tung Chung and Tin Shui Wai after taking office, and would then plan to build hotels and shopping malls and other consumer venues in Tung Chung, mainly to attract visitors to Hong Kong.
Tung Chung was already seen on Western maps beginning in 1815, sometimes with the romanization Toong-chung (see image). [3] Tung Chung may be a new town, but its heritage can be seen in the form of old fishing villages. They show another façade of Tung Chung, of a village before the development of the airport and the town.
