The Catholic Church in Ireland, or Irish Catholic Church, is part of the worldwide Catholic Church in communion with the Holy See. With 3.5 million members (in the Republic of Ireland), it is the largest Christian church in Ireland. In the Republic of Ireland's 2022 census, 69% of the population identified as Roman Catholic. [2]

Sean Joseph Connolly, FBA, MRIA, FRHistS (born 9 December 1951) is an Irish historian, initially specialising in the social history of Irish Catholicism in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, but more recently on post-Reformation and early modern Ireland and modern Belfast.
He went on to lecture in Medieval History (1930–1947), then in 1948 he became the college's Professor of Medieval History, a post he retained until 1962. John Canon O'Hanlon MRIA (30 April 1821 – 15 May 1905) [1] was an Irish Catholic priest, scholar and writer who also published poetry and illustrations, and involved himself in Irish politics. He is best known as a folklorist and a hagiographer, and in particular for his comprehensive Lives of the Irish Saints .
Although he published many academic articles and was in demand as a reviewer Corish is best known for two books: The Irish Catholic Experience [1] (1985), a one volume history of Catholicism in Ireland, and Maynooth College 1795-1995 [2] (1995), published for the bi-centenary of Maynooth College.
