A chart datum is generally derived from some tidal phase, in which case it is also known as a tidal datum. St. Mary's River State Park is a public recreation area located in St. Mary's County, Maryland. The state park consists of two sites: one encompasses 250-acre (100 ha) St. Mary's Lake; the second covers 2,200 acres (890 ha) and is largely undeveloped. The park is managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. [2]

The 64-acre (26 ha) state park consists mainly of tide flats with 6,000 feet (1,800 m) of shoreline near the historic townsite of Ocosta. [2] It was created at the urging of birding experts Bob Morse and Ruby Egbert, who personally donated funds for land purchases at the site in 1993 and for whom the park's Ruby Egbert Natural Area is named.
