When Sunrise Highway was extended east of Amityville in 1940, it terminated at Montauk Highway's entrance to Connetquot River State Park. [35] In 1953, Sunrise Highway was extended to East Patchogue; a 0.5 mi (0.80 km) overlap of NY 27 and NY 27A was created, with at-grade intersections connecting the highways. [36]
When CR 111 was built between the Long Island Expressway and Sunrise Highway during the 1970s, it replaced Eastport–Manorville Road north of the road's current terminus towards the L.I.E. However, Suffolk County Planning Department wanted to build a new extension of CR 55 north of CR 111 leading to the Grumman Calverton Airport.
After crossing into North Great River, the route winds through the park as a two-lane roadway, paralleling the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. NY 27A then reaches exit 46 of NY 27 (Sunrise Highway), entering Great River. At this interchange, NY 27A terminates, while CR 85 continues east along Montauk Highway. [4]
Further northwest, CR 111 intersects with exit 70 of Interstate 495 (Long Island Expressway), a diamond interchange with traffic signals. CR 111 concludes at the northern signal with I-495 west. However, Eastport Manor Road extends for a short distance as a two-lane, 30-mile-per-hour (48 km/h) road.

County Route 97 (CR 97) is a north–south expressway in Suffolk County, New York, in the United States. It runs from an intersection with CR 85 (Montauk Highway) in Bayport just west of Blue Point on the south shore of Long Island to a junction with New York State Route 25A (NY 25A) in Stony Brook on the island's north shore.
Long Island Avenue was a divided highway at this intersection decades before North Ocean Avenue was. By the mid-1970s, North Ocean Avenue was finally widened to four lanes as well, at least as far south as the Sunrise Highway (NY 27). This widening filled the gap beneath the bridge, but eliminated a connecting road to Brookrun Drive.
