Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) in India is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme which came into effect on 1 December 1997. The scheme strives to provide gainful employment and livelihood to the urban unemployed and underemployed poor, through encouraging the setting up of self-employment ventures or provision of wage employment.
The urban version of this program was Nehru Rozgar Yojana. The National Food for Work Programme (NFWP), 2004 was launched by the Ministry of Rural Development, central government on 14 November 2004 in 150 of the most backward districts of India to generate supplementary wage employment. The programme is open to all Indian poor who are ready to do manual unskilled labour work sponsored scheme.
