Nnamdi Azikiwe University came into being as an offshoot of the defunct Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH). [8] ASUTECH which was established through Law No. 7 of 30 July 1980 by the Government of the old Anambra that operated as a multi-campus university, with campuses in Abakiliki, Enugu, Awka and Nnewi.

The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal and public research university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Eastern part of Nigeria.Founded in 1955 by Nnamdi Azikiwe [5] [6] [7] who was the Governor General of Nigeria between 1960 and 1963, [8] and first President of Nigeria between 1963 and 1966. [9]
Esimone started his career as internee pharmacist and then became a laboratory instructor, all in the Department of Pharmaceutics, University of Nigeria Nsukka. [8] He became a professor of biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutical microbiology at the age of 37 years and was the pioneer Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agulu Campus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. [9]
The 1996 edition of the award was cancelled due to the death of Azikiwe who died in May 1996 at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital in Enugu. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] The Inaugural awardee of the Prize includes Jerry Rawlings of Ghana , Akintola Williams and Abdulazeez Udeh of Nigeria.

Benard Ifeanyi Odoh (born 5 August 1975) is a Nigerian politician and professor of applied geophysics who served as the vice-chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, for 22 days (29 October - 20 November 2024). [1] [2] [3] He was the Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government from 2015 to 2018.
