Nnamdi Azikiwe University came into being as an offshoot of the defunct Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH). [8] ASUTECH which was established through Law No. 7 of 30 July 1980 by the Government of the old Anambra that operated as a multi-campus university, with campuses in Abakiliki, Enugu, Awka and Nnewi.

Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku (born October 1, 1962) is an academic and Consultant Chemical Pathologist of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria. [1] Ahaneku is a former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (Monday 26 May 2014 - Wednesday May 2019). [2] [3] He is from Nnarambia Ahiara Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria. [4]
Esimone started his career as internee pharmacist and then became a laboratory instructor, all in the Department of Pharmaceutics, University of Nigeria Nsukka. [8] He became a professor of biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutical microbiology at the age of 37 years and was the pioneer Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agulu Campus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.
