Hugh Douglas Barclay (July 5, 1932 – March 14, 2021) was an American politician, diplomat, and attorney from the state of New York. He was a member of the New York State Senate from 1965 to 1984. [1] Barclay also served as the United States ambassador to El Salvador from 2003 to 2007. [2]
Barclay was born in Syracuse, New York [3] to H. Douglas Barclay and Dee Dee Barclay. [4] His father, who serves as U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador and as chair of the Republican Conference in the New York State Senate, [5] was "among the most influential Republicans in New York state during a 52-year political career".
