Encountering a Shiny Pokémon is extremely rare; the probability under normal conditions is 1 in 4,096 (1 in 8,192 prior to Pokémon X and Y). Some Pokémon, however, are coded never to be Shiny; this is known as being "Shiny-locked". Shiny-locked Pokémon cannot be caught in normal play, but they can be obtained in limited time events.
