A Shankha bangle is the symbol that indicates that a Hindu woman is married. In the 17th century, the Shankharis (conch shell workers) were reportedly brought to Dhaka by the Mughal emperor , who allotted them this area for settlement; it later became known as Shankhari Bazaar.

The best authenticity test is to take an X-ray image of the Valampuri.
