An owl named Sam awakens one night and looks for a playmate, but since it is the middle of the night, all the other animals are asleep. Sam then comes across a series of flying lights, one of which hits Sam in the head, which is Gus, a firefly. Gus shows Sam the trick he can do, which is he can make glowing lines in midair using his light.
Reader and his friends notice that the stars in the sky are disappearing. They are met by a firefly named Spark who tells them that the crater of Mount Brill in Sparkalot is blocked by a crashed Pirat ship. With Mount Brill blocked, new stars cannot appear in the sky. In order to remove the Pirat ship, Reader and Sam have to collect brillites.
The series takes place in a world of anthropomorphic animals and follows the adventures of Sam Snow and Kit Casey, two agents employed by the Covert League of Animal Detective Experts (or C.L.A.D.E. for short), as they travel around the world solving many mysteries while using their expertise in problem-solving and animal facts.

Science fiction fandom or SF fandom is a community or fandom of people interested in science fiction in contact with one another based upon that interest. SF fandom has a life of its own, but not much in the way of formal organization (although formal clubs such as the Futurians (1937–1945) and the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society (1934–present) are recognized examples of organized fandom).
From 1936 to 1941, Eastman worked at Walt Disney Productions in assistant animation, story-sketch, and production design. From 1941 to 1942, he worked in the story department of Leon Schlesinger Productions, Warner Bros.'s cartoon unit, and was a member of Local Number Eight Hundred And Thirty-Nine of Motion Picture Screen Cartoonists, the trade union representing cartoonists in the United States.
