Gauguin's life inspired W. Somerset Maugham's novel The Moon and Sixpence. Mario Vargas Llosa based his 2003 novel The Way to Paradise on Gauguin's life, and that of his grandmother Flora Tristan. Actor Anthony Quinn portrayed Gauguin in the 1956 Van Gogh biopic Lust for Life and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance.

Paradise Found is a 2003 biographical film based on the life of Post-Impressionist painter Paul Gauguin. Starring Kiefer Sutherland as the title character, alongside Nastassja Kinski and Alun Armstrong. Kiefer's father, Donald Sutherland, also plays Paul Gauguin in the 1986 film The Wolf at the Door.
The Annual Indonesian Movie Actor Awards (formerly Indonesian Movie Awards) [1] [2] are annual awards that have been presented to filmmakers in Indonesia since 2007. The trophy given is called Piala Layar Emas. Winners in "Best" categories are selected by a jury, and winners in "Favorite" categories are selected by the public.
In 1888 and 1889 Gauguin's enthusiasm for Japanese ukiyo-e woodcuts emerged. Japanese prints appeared in the background of his Apple and Vase painting, his portrait of The Schuffenecker Family and also Still Life with Head-Shaped Vase and Japanese Woodcut, which depicts an ukiyo-e portrait of an actor.
