In common with other slipper lobsters, Ibacus peronii has a broad, flattened body and a large carapace. [2] The carapace is reddish brown, [3] and reaches lengths of 2–10 centimetres (0.8–3.9 in), with the whole animal able to reach a length of 23 cm (9 in), [4] and a width of 10–14 cm (3.9–5.5 in).
