Imam Samudra (Arabic: الإمام سامودرة, romanized: al-Imām Sāmūdirah, 14 January 1970 – 9 November 2008), also known as Abdul Aziz, [3] Qudama/Kudama, Fatih/Fat, Abu Umar or Heri, [4] was an Indonesian terrorist who was convicted and executed for his role in carrying out the Christmas Eve 2000 Indonesia bombings and 2002 Bali bombings. Samudra (Sanskrit: समुद्र; IAST: samudrá) is a Sanskrit term literally meaning the "gathering together of waters" (saṃ-"together" and -udra "water"). It refers to an ocean, sea or confluence. [1]
The name for this species, samudera was derived from the Sanskrit word, samudra (समु, sea) which was in turn derived from sam-(सम्, together) and udra-(उ, water). Similarly, Samudera was the name of the first Islamic Sultanate wherein the name of the island of Sumatra thought to derive its name from.
