In the full-resolution color image, Earth was 90 pixels across and the Moon was 24 pixels across from a distance of 142 million km. [7] On May 25, 2008, HiRISE imaged NASA's Mars Phoenix Lander parachuting down to the surface of Mars. It was the first time that one spacecraft imaged the final descent of another spacecraft onto a planetary body.

The parachute has a different shape in the Nov. 1 image than in the Oct. 25 one, apparently from shifting in the wind. Similar shifting was observed in the parachute of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission during the first six months after the Mars arrival of that mission's Curiosity rover in 2012 .

The instrument context camera (ICC) mounted below the lander deck obtained this image on Nov. 26, 2018, shortly after landing. The transparent lens cover was still in place to protect the lens from any dust kicked up during landing.
There's no Google Earth for Mars — no way to zoom in for a closer look at your Martian neighbors' new deck or pickup truck — but Caltech scientists have spent six years composing a 3D image of ...
